Annuals

When you want immediate color in your garden or on your patio, annuals are wonderful to plant. Full of color, their blossoms bring smiles to your face and butterflies to your yard. Easy to grow, annuals are for both the new or experienced gardener. You can grow them in the ground, in containers and pots, and in hanging baskets. Plant most in the spring and you’ll have color in your garden until the fall. You’ll find annuals, such as marigolds, lantana, cosmos, and dianthus, just to name a few, for your sun garden. You’ll find other annuals, such as begonias and torenia, for your shade gardens. And, if you plant pansies in the fall, you’ll find that they come back in the spring.

Perennials

Perennials are the plants that keep on giving: they come back every year. These are the plants that, once established, become low maintenance and in most cases drought tolerant. You’ll find perennials, such as Echinacea (purple cone flower) and Rudbeckia (Black-eyed Susan) for the sun garden which also provide food for the birds in your yard. You’ll find perennials, such as Daylily and columbine which attract hummingbirds, for the sun, semi-sun and semi-shade gardens. You’ll find perennials, such as hellebore (Lenten Rose) which is deer resistant and hosta for the shade garden.

Bulbs

Bulbs are either spring or summer blooming. Daffodils, tulips, and crocus greet you as the season changes from winter to spring. Dahlias, lilies, peonies, and elephant ears welcome the warmth of summer months.

Shrubs

Shrubs are nature’s way to create sculpture and structure in your yard. Some, such as roses, and red-twig dogwoods, are deciduous and lose their leaves in the fall. Others, such as mountain laurels, boxwoods, hollies, firs, and spruces, are evergreen and maintain their leaves or needles throughout the winter months. Meanwhile shrubs such as azaleas can be either evergreen or deciduous. You’ll find shrubs for sun, semi-sun, semi-shade, and full shade that meet your landscape needs.

Trees

Trees form an anchor between your landscape and your home. Majestic, such as oak or maple trees, they can tower over your home. Others, such as Japanese Maple or Weeping Cherry, can become part of your garden. Whether you’re looking for deciduous trees such as Crape Myrtle, Flowering Dogwood, Cherry Tree, or a Redbud tree; or looking for evergreen trees, such as Leyland Cypress or Arborvitae, for that curb appeal, you’ll find a wonderful assortment of sun and shade trees.

Vines

Reaching high or across a trellis or arbor, vines provide a statement that creates a flow and structure to your garden: Wisteria, with its beautiful flowers, and trumpet vines that attract hummingbirds.

Vegetables and Herbs

Growing your own food is always a gardener’s delight. Imagine just walking out the door to harvest your own tomatoes, eggplant, or zucchini. Or, imagine those cooler months when you can still find lettuce, kale, kohlrabi, potatoes, asparagus, or broccoli in your garden. Just add some herbs, such as basil, oregano, or lemon verbena, and you can have a succulent meal. These are just some of the vegetables and herbs you’ll find at Burke Nursery & Garden Centre.

House Plants

Whether you’re looking for house plants to bring nature inside or increase the flow of oxygen in your home, you’ll find plants which range from the traditional to the exotic: African violets, orchids, bromeliads, Venus Flytraps, Peace Lily, ferns, are just some of the plants you’ll find in our Greenhouse.
